Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - Community Edition Setup Guide

This guide explains how to install the Community Edition mod for the PC/Steam version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Unlike the earlier Marvel vs. Capcom games covered in our Fightcade tutorials, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has an official PC release available through Steam.

SGAWeb recommends purchasing and installing the official Steam version before proceeding with this guide.

==================================================
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
==================================================

1. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for PC through Steam
2. The UMvC3 Community Edition mod
3. Sufficient storage space for the Community Edition files
4. A controller or other compatible input device

==================================================
STEP 1 - INSTALL THE OFFICIAL STEAM VERSION
==================================================

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is officially available for PC through Steam.

Official Steam page:

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - Steam

Purchase and install the game through Steam.

SGAWeb does not provide or distribute copies of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

After installation, launch the unmodified game at least once to verify that it works correctly before installing Community Edition.

==================================================
STEP 2 - VISIT THE COMMUNITY EDITION PAGE
==================================================

The official Community Edition release is available through Nexus Mods:

UMvC3 Community Edition - Nexus Mods

Community Edition is a fan-created expansion/modpack for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

The project adds a large collection of community-created characters along with balance changes and other modifications.

==================================================
STEP 3 - DOWNLOAD COMMUNITY EDITION
==================================================

Open the Files section of the Nexus Mods page.

For a new installation, download the current complete Community Edition package.

If you already have a recent Community Edition installation, the developers may provide smaller update-only packages.

IMPORTANT:

Always read the current instructions on the Nexus Mods page before downloading an update.

Some update packages require a specific previous Community Edition version and cannot be installed over substantially older releases.

==================================================
STEP 4 - BACK UP YOUR GAME FILES
==================================================

Before modifying Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, consider backing up your existing installation or important configuration/save data.

Community Edition modifies the PC version of the game.

Keeping a backup can make it easier to return to the standard version if you experience problems or decide to remove the mod.

==================================================
STEP 5 - INSTALL COMMUNITY EDITION
==================================================

Follow the installation instructions included with the current Community Edition download and on its Nexus Mods page.

Because Community Edition continues to receive updates, its installation files and procedures may change over time.

SGAWeb recommends following the instructions supplied with the version you download rather than relying on old installation packages or outdated third-party mirrors.

Do not combine Community Edition with unrelated modpacks unless the Community Edition developers specifically state that they are compatible.

==================================================
STEP 6 - LAUNCH THE GAME
==================================================

After installation, launch Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 through Steam.

Verify that Community Edition loads successfully.

Community Edition's additional characters can be accessed from the character-select screen.

If the game does not launch correctly, review the current Community Edition documentation and troubleshooting resources before reinstalling the entire game.

==================================================
COMMUNITY EDITION AND ONLINE PLAY
==================================================

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's official Steam release includes online PvP.

However, Community Edition substantially modifies the game.

When playing with other Community Edition users, make sure everyone is using compatible versions and configurations.

Do not assume that a heavily modified Community Edition installation will behave identically to an unmodified copy of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 during multiplayer.

For competitive/community play, follow the current recommendations from the Community Edition developers and tournament organizers.

==================================================
RETURNING TO THE STANDARD GAME
==================================================

If you want to return to an unmodified installation of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, restore your backup or use Steam's installation-management/verification features as appropriate.

Always preserve important save/configuration data before removing or replacing modified files.

==================================================
IMPORTANT MOD NOTICE
==================================================

Community Edition is an unofficial community-created modification.

It is separate from Capcom's official release of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

SGAWeb recommends obtaining the base game through Steam and downloading Community Edition only from its official project page or another location explicitly provided by its developers.
